The Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) organized a youth workshop at Our Lady of Tapao Center, Vietnam, from September 15-18, 2025. The meeting focused on the theme: Follow up of FABC 50 Bangkok Document for Youth, helping young people from Asia to understand it better and reflect on how the youth can actively engage with its message.
This gathering brought together Bishops, priests and youth representatives from across Asia, with delegations from India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Hong Kong, Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Japan. Leander Pereira from the Don Bosco Youth Services Mumbai and Shawna Nemesia Rebello, Special Projects Executive of the Don Bosco Green Alliance participated in the sessions and discussions.
The gathering reflected on the realities of young people, while also gaining into the key initiatives of FABC 50 and the role of youth in dialogue. Drawing from the Bangkok Document, participants engaged in understanding some of the realities across Asia today which include migration, the challenges faced by families, the evolving role of women in rapidly changing societies, gender concerns, and the struggles of youth confronting a new world. Other important themes included the impact of digital technology, the call to promote a more equitable economy, the value of inter-religious dialogue, and the urgent need to care for our common home.
In addition to sessions and group discussions, the program featured interactive workshops on ecology, designing Mary and reflecting on her qualities and a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Tapao, where participants joined pilgrims in celebrating Mass. An important highlight was the opportunity for young people to take the lead in conducting sessions on assigned topics, applying the pedagogy of youth ministry they had learned during the gathering. One of the days concluded with a cultural program by the youth, showcasing the richness of traditions and talents.
The gathering concluded on September 18 with words of gratitude by Bishop Allwyn D'silva for the Diocese of Phan Thiết for their warm hospitality and those who were involved into making this event a great success. Participants carried the message that the youth are the living present of the Church in Asia and are called to be witnesses of the Gospel and bearers of hope in today’s world.
