On October 4, 2025, a community workshop titled “Rishton Ki Dor” was conducted by the Social Development Team (DBDS) of Don Bosco Academy, Nerul from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the ground floor assembly hall. The workshop, attended by approximately 72 women from the migrant community, aimed at exploring and strengthening the various relationships that shape a person’s personal and social life.
Envisioned by Fr Barnabe Dsouza – Rector of DBN, Nerul as an ongoing program on marriage preparation. It works on strengthening of relationships between spouses and within families. This series of workshops works on two levels. A ground level where we look at the realities in relationships by one-on-one discussions, to understand their dynamics. At level two, we integrate these into the workshop so that we are working on solutions to real problems faced by people.
The session taken by Ms Janaki Bhand – Psychologist at Don Bosco Prafulta, focused on Relationship Management, highlighting how effective communication, patience, mutual understanding, and respect can help maintain harmony in one’s relationships. It sought to provide practical tools for participants to better understand their emotional connections and manage them in a healthy and positive manner.
The workshop began with a short inaugural address by Mr Mathew George – Coordinator DBDS, who warmly welcomed all participants and spoke on the importance of building strong, respectful, and understanding relationships in both personal and community settings. His message set the tone for an afternoon of learning, reflection, and meaningful dialogue.
To make the session engaging and interactive, various participatory methods were used, including games, role plays, and group discussions. These activities encouraged participants to express their thoughts openly, share personal experiences, and relate the concepts discussed to real-life situations. The role plays in particular helped bring out practical lessons on how to handle conflicts, express emotions, and strengthen mutual respect within families and the community.
The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the workshop. Many women shared their own stories and reflections, adding depth and authenticity to the discussions. The interactive approach fostered a warm and inclusive environment, where every participant felt heard and valued.
Overall, “Rishton Ki Dor” proved to be an impactful initiative, promoting awareness, understanding, and healthy dialogue on relationship management among women. It created a safe and supportive space for learning, sharing, and personal growth. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr George, who appreciated the active participation of the women and the dedicated efforts of the Social Development Team in organizing such a meaningful event.
