The spirit of Don Bosco was vibrantly alive at Boscowadi, Gorai, from October 19 to 26, 2025, as 56 young students successfully completed the intensive “RISE UP! Express to Impress Camp.” The program, designed to foster holistic development and key life skills, was an overwhelming success, leaving participants revitalized in mind, body, and spirit.
The camp gathered students primarily from the 6th and 7th standards, focusing on a powerful theme: Reinvent. Improve. Speak. Excel. The packed, 15-hour daily schedule, which ran from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., ensured that every moment was utilized for growth and learning, embodying the Salesian ideal of joyful diligence.
A highly dedicated 12-member animating team spearheaded the initiative. This team included the core Salesian leadership of Frs George, Ajay, and Richard SDB, alongside six enthusiastic volunteers, two committed sisters from the Holy Spirit congregation, and several supportive well-wishers. Their collective effort created a welcoming and dynamic environment crucial for the camp’s success.
The training sessions were carefully curated to address the foundational needs of today’s youth. Key topics included intensive workshops on Personality Development and Leadership skills, laying the groundwork for the students to become responsible future citizens. Crucially, the program prioritized internal formation with sessions dedicated to achieving Holiness and maintaining Emotional Well-being, supported by one-on-one personal guidance and mentoring sessions offered by the animators. A timely and important feature was the focus on Building Healthy Digital Habits, empowering students with the awareness and discipline necessary for screen control in the modern age.
Living up to the “Express to Impress” theme, a significant portion of the day was dedicated to enhancing communication. Students engaged in special activities designed to boost Public Speaking skills and improve overall communication, directly building their self-confidence. What made this camp particularly unique was the inclusion of dedicated English and Math classes everyday, ensuring that academic excellence was pursued hand-in-hand with character development.
The Salesian style of education was evident in the perfect balance of duty and delight. The spiritual heart of the camp beat strong with the daily celebration of the Holy Eucharist, nourishing the participants’ faith. Evenings, on the other hand, were a blast of pure fun: organized beach games provided refreshing recreation, and the opportunity for swimming pool fun ensured that the campers built strong bonds of friendship and shared joy.
The RISE UP Camp was a powerful reminder of the impact of concerted, holistic youth ministry. It successfully molded 56 young individuals, equipping them not just with skills for success, but with the spiritual and emotional fortitude to thrive. The enthusiasm demonstrated by the participants upon conclusion promises a bright future for these young people as they return home ready to Reinvent, Improve, Speak, and Excel in their daily lives.
