Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday, celebrated nationwide as Children’s Day, is a reminder of his deep love and respect for children. He believed that children are the future of the nation and the very strength upon which a country builds its tomorrow. According to Nehru, the way children are nurtured today will shape the society we live in years from now. Keeping this spirit alive, Children’s Day is not only a celebration of childhood but also a call to ensure that every child—regardless of background—receives love, care, and opportunities to grow.
On November 14, 2025, the Don Bosco Development Services (DBDS) team organized a vibrant and meaningful Children’s Day celebration for the Oratory students. While many children associate this day with gifts, outings, and special treats from home and school, DBDS focused on bringing joy into the lives of migrant and marginalized children who may not always experience such celebrations. The team designed an event where they were the center of attention and where their childhood was honoured, cherished, and celebrated.
The programme began with a meaningful prayer led by Mr Mathew George, Coordinator at DBDS. He extended a warm welcome to Fr Barnabe D’Souza, Rector, and Fr Shekhar Mariadas, Administrator, whose presence added encouragement and blessings to the day’s events. After a heartfelt welcome message to the children, the celebrations unfolded with energy and enthusiasm.
Approximately 120 marginalized children, who regularly visit the Don Bosco campus for learning, support, and personal growth, participated wholeheartedly. The event beautifully blended fun with purpose through a variety of mindful, creative, and skill-building activities. A highlight of the day was Khari Kamai, an innovative activity where children set up their own small food counters. This gave them a hands-on experience of earning through their own effort, helping them understand the dignity of labour and the joy of independence.
In addition to this, the children engaged in art activities, interactive games, and cultural learning sessions designed to spark creativity, build confidence, and encourage curiosity. Each child received a return-gift pouch and a snack box, adding an extra touch of happiness to their special day.
The celebration, thoughtfully organized by the DBDS team, truly reflected the spirit of Don Bosco—uplifting the young, empowering the vulnerable, and nurturing a sense of unity, dignity, and hope. Through this event, DBDS not only celebrated a day but also reaffirmed the promise of a brighter, more inclusive future for every child.
