On January 25, 2026, DISHA Don Bosco, Kawant, organized a Village Education Programme (VEP) celebration for Children’s Day at the Don Bosco Kawant campus as part of the Feast of St. John Bosco. Children from 16 villages of the Kawant block in Chhotaudepur District, Gujarat, participated in the programme. More than 600 children gathered on the campus with great enthusiasm. The theme of the celebration was “Ballagne Jakaro – Samaj ne Sudharo”, which means “Say No to Child Marriage – Improve Society.”
The programme began at 9 a.m. with registration, as children arrived from various VEP centres. Breakfast was served after registration. The official inaugural programme started at 10 a.m., once all the children had assembled.
The chief guest for the programme was Mr Ravidasbhai Rathwa, District Child Protection Officer. Other dignitaries present on the dais included Fr Mayank Parmar, Rector and Director of DISHA Don Bosco; Br Melvyn Carvalho, Administrator; Fr Agnel Dias, Prefect of Studies; Cl. Ankit Ganava, Assistant; Sr Regina, OP, and Sr Heena, OP. The programme was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp, assisted by a group of children.
Fr Mayank Parmar delivered the welcome address and explained the theme of the day to the children in a simple and engaging manner. Mr Ravidasbhai Rathwa spoke about the importance of child protection and explained various child helpline numbers available for their safety and support.
This was followed by a series of cultural and entertainment programmes prepared and presented by the children. The morning session was filled with joy, energy, and creativity, creating a festive atmosphere across the campus.
After lunch, the children participated in fifteen fete games specially arranged for them. These games were organized by Fr Agnel Dias, Cl. Ankit Ganava, and the boarding children. Each child received a prize coupon after playing the games and could choose a gift from the prize stall. The games helped boost the children’s confidence and self-esteem and brought smiles to their faces. Children who completed the games were encouraged to join in the traditional Timli dance, keeping everyone actively engaged throughout the afternoon.
Later, the children gathered in the hall where Mr Hasmukh Christian proposed the vote of thanks. Snacks were served to the children as they sat in their groups, after which they departed joyfully to their respective villages.
The programme saw the active involvement of youth volunteers and VEP teachers, who supported the children throughout the day. The event was anchored by Mr Naresh Rathwa, DISHA staff. Br Melvyn Carvalho, along with Mr Arvind Rathwa and the kitchen staff, coordinated the meals. Fr Mayank Parmar and Mr Hasmukh Christian ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the entire programme.
