On Monday, September 29, 2025, the auditorium of Don Bosco Academy (DBA), Nerul, came alive with the pulsating rhythm and vibrant colours of Raas Garba. Hosted by Don Bosco Development Services (DBDS), Nerul, this event was a powerful expression of social harmony—a core value of DBDS. The evening successfully brought together members from various migrant communities, transforming the academy into a family celebrating togetherness and mutual respect.
At DBDS, we believe in celebrating the oneness in people rather than focusing on our differences. Our calendar is dotted with Social Harmony events that celebrate festivals across all religions, with the simple yet profound aim of spreading joy and happiness. Done in collaboration with generous well-wishers and community partners, the Raas Garba provided a crucial platform for residents, particularly the women from diverse cultural backgrounds, to connect, share laughter, and foster lasting bonds within the local community.
Present at the event were Fr Shekar Mariadas – Administrator and Vice Principal of DBN, Fr Barnabe Dsouza – Rector DBA, Ms Wenonah Castellino – Advisor at DBA Nerul, Mr Raajesh Ohri – COO of DBA and Mr Mathew George – Coordinator of DBDS. The children from the oratory, ladies from the communities and inhouse students learning skilling were the participants for the event. Over 250 persons including staff from all the departments were present.
The joyful festivities commenced with a brief prayer, setting a tone of reverence. Following this, the spirited Garba dance took centre stage, engaging ladies, men, and children alike. The significance of the dance was subtly woven into the evening: the nine-day festival of Navratri celebrates the triumph of good over evil. The dance, performed in a great circle around a Garbha Deep (symbolizing the mother’s womb and the seat of life), reflects the cyclical nature of life—birth, death, and rebirth. This communal, energetic movement perfectly embodied the collective spirit of the community. The evening culminated in the recognition of exceptional enthusiasm, with prizes awarded to the best dancers in the male, female, and child categories. The program ended with thanksgiving and snacks sponsored by well wishers.
Whatever be the event, the community yearns for unity and shared celebration. Don Bosco Development Services looks forward to continuing these inter-cultural programs, reinforcing the belief that celebration and understanding are the most effective bridges between communities.
