On September 29 and 30, 2025, Don Bosco School and Junior College, Nashik, organized two intellectually stimulating debate competitions as part of its academic enrichment programme. Students from both the Secondary Section and Junior College enthusiastically participated, showcasing their critical thinking and public speaking skills.
The Chief Guest for the inauguration was Fr Royal, Rector of Don Bosco Nashik. He was welcomed with a Guard of Honour, along with the panel of judges, jury members, and the Principal, Fr Rixson. The event was inaugurated by Fr Royal, who also addressed the students, encouraging them to combine knowledge with values and to become thoughtful, responsible individuals.
On September 29, the Secondary Section debated the theme "Reason and Faith." Participants delivered articulate and thought-provoking arguments, exploring how reason drives progress and how faith provides emotional and moral grounding. The discussion encouraged students to reflect on the importance of finding a balance between logic and belief.
On September 30, the Junior College students debated the timely topic "Artificial Intelligence – A Blessing or a Curse?" The Chief Guest for the day was Fr Ivo Coelho, a renowned Salesian scholar. His presence elevated the occasion, and in his address to the students, he emphasized the importance of ethical thinking in the face of rapid technological advancements. He encouraged students to be not only informed but also responsible digital citizens in a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence.
The Junior College debate featured compelling perspectives. While some students praised AI’s transformative role in sectors like healthcare and education, others expressed concern over its impact on employment, privacy, and human connection. The debate sparked meaningful discussion, with participants showing maturity and insight in handling a complex topic.
Both competitions were marked by spirited participation, thoughtful arguments, and respectful engagement. The panel of judges praised the students for their clarity, confidence, and ability to critically analyse complex topics.
The competitions concluded with a vote of thanks by Principal Fr Rixson, who expressed his appreciation to the Chief Guests, judges, staff, and students. He emphasized the value of such events in shaping confident and socially aware young minds.
These debates not only strengthened students’ communication and analytical abilities but also fostered a culture of dialogue and reflection within the school community.
