Salesian Family Day was joyfully celebrated at Jyoti Mata Church, Virar West on February 8, 2026, bringing together the parents and family members of Salesian Fathers and Brothers from Vasai, Uttan, and Virar. Around 150 participants were present, making the occasion a beautiful gathering of faith, gratitude, and fellowship, rooted in the Salesian spirit of family.
The celebration commenced with the Holy Eucharist, during which the gathered families came together in prayer and thanksgiving. The Eucharistic celebration offered a moment to reflect on the gift of vocation and to pray for the Salesian priests and brothers who continue to dedicate their lives to the service of the Church, especially to the young. It also served as an opportunity to thank God for the families who have nurtured and supported these vocations with love, sacrifice, and faith.
After the Holy Mass, Fr Anaclete delivered the welcome address. He warmly greeted all the family members and expressed heartfelt appreciation for their presence. In his speech, he acknowledged the vital role played by parents and families in the lives of Salesian priests and brothers, highlighting that every vocation is deeply rooted in a family that fosters faith, values, and encouragement. His words set a warm and reflective tone for the rest of the programme.
Adding colour and joy to the celebration was a graceful dance performance by the catechism students of Jyoti Mata Church. The children presented a lively and meaningful performance that was well appreciated by the gathering. Their enthusiasm and talent brought smiles to everyone’s faces and reflected the vibrancy of the parish community. The performance also highlighted the importance of nurturing young talents within the Church and encouraging active participation in parish life.
The programme then moved into a cheerful get-together session with games organised by the youth of Jyoti Mata Church. These activities created a relaxed and joyful atmosphere, allowing family members to interact, laugh, and bond with one another. The youth played a key role in ensuring that everyone felt welcomed and involved, reflecting the Salesian emphasis on joy, participation, and togetherness.
Before the meal, grace was led by Fr Robert Pen, the Vice Provincial of the Mumbai Province. He thanked God for the blessings received and for the loving service of those who prepared the meal. The lunch, lovingly cooked and served by the parishioners of Jyoti Mata Church, was a true expression of generosity and hospitality. The delicious meal was enjoyed by all and further strengthened the sense of community and belonging.
At the conclusion of the programme, each family was presented with a small gift as a token of appreciation. This gesture expressed gratitude for their constant prayers, support, and sacrifices that sustain the Salesian mission.
The celebration of Salesian Family Day at Jyoti Mata Church was a meaningful and memorable occasion. Through prayer, celebration, and fellowship, the day strengthened bonds between families, the parish community, and the Salesian congregation, leaving everyone with hearts filled with joy and gratitude.
