The Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad, organized two awareness street plays on the topic “Hygiene and Waste Management” in Indira Nagar and Aanand Nagar slums.
These initiatives were conducted under the Women Empowerment Project, supported by AXA Global Business Services.
Both locations were identified as areas experiencing challenges related to improper waste segregation, poor disposal, and unhygienic surroundings.
The primary aim of the street plays was to raise awareness among residents about the importance of cleanliness, personal hygiene, and systematic waste management. The plays were designed to deliver key messages through engaging performances that captured community attention.
Important aspects of waste management highlighted included:
Collection: Gathering household and community waste regularly.
Segregation and Sorting: Differentiating between organic, recyclable, and non-recyclable waste.
Recycling: Reusing materials to reduce waste load.
Composting: Converting biodegradable waste into natural compost.
Treatment and Disposal: Ensuring safe handling of non-recyclable waste through landfilling, incineration, or waste-to-energy methods.
Regulation and Monitoring: Following local waste management norms and safety standards.
The PCMC Waste Management Team lent active support to the program by spreading awareness about proper waste disposal techniques and hygiene practices. The participating artists included Mr Shivprasad Pasalkar, Mr Manik Khating, Mrs Neelam Waghmare, Mr Aniket Shinde, Mr Amit Kamble, Mr Abhishek Shingare, Mr Ajit Mahadik, Mr Anil Kele, and Mr Sidhant Pawar.
The first performance took place at 9:30 a.m. in Aanand Nagar, followed by the second at 10:30 a.m. in Indira Nagar. Residents from both communities responded with enthusiasm and appreciation. Men, women, and youth participated actively and expressed gratitude to Don Bosco Development Society for bringing such an informative and thought-provoking activity to their areas. The plays inspired the local population to adopt cleaner habits and take proactive steps to maintain community hygiene.
Mrs Akshada and team members Mrs Rajshree and Mrs Vibhawari from the Don Bosco Development Office at Don Bosco Technical Institute, Chinchwad, extended heartfelt thanks to AXA Global Business Services for their continued support to social empowerment projects.
