Don Bosco High School & Jr. College, Naigaon, celebrated its 26th Annual Sports Day on December 12, 2025. The theme of the day, “One World, One Heart, One Future,” was meaningfully woven into every aspect of the programme.
The occasion was graced by the Chief Guest, Mr Anand Menezes, Olympian athlete, Chairman of the Maharashtra Marathon Committee, and Vice President of the Palghar Athletics Association, who formally declared the Sports Meet open before an enthusiastic gathering of nearly 1,500 students and parents. The presence of the Guest of Honour, Mrs Smita Lopes, a dedicated Social Worker and Counsellor, further enriched the event, inspiring all with her commitment to guiding and empowering young minds.
The opening ceremony began with a colourful and creative float procession by the primary section students, who beautifully brought the theme to life. This was followed by a warm welcome address by the Rector, Fr Dominic Martis, who graciously welcomed the dignitaries, management members, parents, teachers, and students, and highlighted the importance of sportsmanship, unity, and holistic education.
The ceremonial March Past by the secondary houses, along with the Scouts, Guides, and Junior College students, reflected discipline and set a dignified tone for the day. Energetic dance performances, a well-coordinated drill by the primary section, and impressive pyramid formations by the secondary students captivated the audience. The track and field events that followed showcased determination, endurance, and sportsmanship, creating an atmosphere filled with excitement and enthusiasm.
In his inspiring address, Mr Menezes emphasised that sports nurture essential life values and he encouraged students to engage in sports from an early age, highlighting their importance in maintaining physical fitness and mental well-being.
The Principal, Fr Anthony Fonseca, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Vice-Principal, Fr Joaquim Fernandes, for his meticulous planning and effective coordination, and thanked the staff, coaches, and volunteers for their tireless efforts. He also acknowledged the enthusiastic support of students, teachers, and parents, which contributed significantly to the event’s success.
Towards the conclusion, special events for parents and non-teaching staff fostered inclusiveness and joy, strengthening the sense of community. The programme concluded with the awarding of championships, the presentation of the winning house trophy, and the formal closing of the Sports Meet by the Guest of Honour, Mrs Smita Lopes.
