Don Bosco Development Society (DBDS), Chinchwad, recently organized a Free Cervical Cancer Screening Camp for women residing in the Saibaba Nagar slum area of Chinchwad.
The initiative was held under the Women Empowerment Project, with generous support from AXA Global Business Services. During the camp, a total of 38 women underwent cervical cancer screening. The medical examinations were conducted by Dr Pritam Chaudhari and her dedicated team, including Clinic Coordinator Mrs Payal Bapat, Nurses Mrs Maya Bhilare and Mrs Pratibha Ichke, and Community Coordinator Mr Keshav Gade. Basic health parameters such as blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen saturation were recorded for all participants.
Women aged between 30 and 70 years received comprehensive tests including Breast Screening (CBC & IBE) and HPV DNA–Cervical Screening. These tests are crucial for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, offering health benefits for up to five years. The test reports are currently awaited.
Cervical cancer screening plays a vital role in detecting precancerous changes early, improving treatment outcomes, lowering mortality rates, and maintaining reproductive health. The camp particularly benefited women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, aligning with DBDS’ commitment to community health and empowerment.
A special health awareness session was organized for women, aiming to promote healthy lifestyle habits. The resource persons guided the participants on the importance of avoiding smoking and tobacco chewing, as well as abstaining from alcohol.
They emphasized maintaining a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains for overall well-being.The women were also encouraged to lead an active lifestyle and incorporate regular daily exercise into their routines. The session concluded with an interactive question-and-answer segment, allowing participants to clarify their doubts and share personal health concerns.
