On March 22, 2026, in a unique expression of faith and community, the youth of Sacred Heart Parish, Yerwada, Pune organized a house-to-house Way of the Cross for the youth members during this Lenten season. Moving beyond the walls of the church, the initiative transformed the parish neighborhood into a pathway of prayer, where each home became a sacred space to encounter Christ.
The devotion began at the church, where the youth gathered in a spirit of reverence and quiet anticipation. A hymn was sung, setting a reflective tone for the evening, after which the first station was held, marking the beginning of the spiritual journey.
From there, the youth moved together from one home to another, with each house of a youth member hosting one station from the second to the thirteenth. At each host family’s home, the Youth Director, Fr Gregory D’Cunha invited each family present to share their intentions, asking them what they wished to pray for. This moment created a deeply personal and communal atmosphere, as participants entrusted their intentions to God, carrying these prayers with them throughout the Way of the Cross.
Throughout this experience, the youth reflected on Christ’s Passion while experiencing a strong sense of unity and belonging. Each host family prepared their station with devotion, helping deepen the spiritual experience. The reflections at every station invited the youth to connect personally with Christ’s suffering and love, encouraging them to reflect on their own lives and Lenten journey.
The fourteenth and final station was held back at the church, bringing the journey to a peaceful and meaningful conclusion. The closing moments were filled with peace, gratitude, and a renewed sense of faith.
Living out the Lenten call to charity, the youth also undertook an initiative of almsgiving. They contributed their Lenten savings and pooled funds to support the underprivileged by preparing and distributing ration packs consisting of essential items such as grains, tea, and sugar. The distribution began with a prayer led by the Parish Priest, Fr Michael Fernandes after which the youth reached out in service, sharing both material support and compassion.
Through these initiatives, the Sacred Heart Parish youth beautifully lived the true spirit of Lent—growing in prayer, unity, and charity. The Sacred Heart Parish youth not only journeyed with Christ through His Passion but also extended His love to others, making their Lenten observance both meaningful and impactful.
