By Fr Ashwin Macwan SDB for BIS Mumbai
A deeply meaningful and spiritually enriching Lenten pilgrimage was organized on March 22, 2026 by Don Bosco Kapadvanj for the SYM youth. A group of 23 enthusiastic young participants embarked on this grace-filled journey under the guidance of Fr Ashwin Macwan, Director of Amrutdhara Don Bosco Kapadvanj.
The pilgrimage began with an overnight train journey from Nadiad to Karjat. Upon arrival, the group proceeded to Don Bosco Karjat, where they freshened up and had breakfast. The youth then prayerfully participated in the Way of the Cross, entering deeply into the spirit of Lent. The Holy Eucharist was solemnly celebrated by Fr Brian Boothello SDB, Rector Don Bosco Karjat.
In the afternoon, the pilgrimage continued with visits to significant places of faith in Mumbai. The group first visited St. Michael’s Church, Mahim, known for its deep Marian devotion, where they spent time in silent personal prayer. They then proceeded to the Mount.
The journey continued with a visit to the FMA Provincial House in Bandra, where the sisters warmly welcomed the group.
A special highlight of the day was the visit to the Salesian Provincial House at Matunga. The youth were blessed to meet Fr Ashley Miranda, Provincial of the Mumbai Province, who addressed them with a short but inspiring spiritual conference and patiently answered their questions. Fr Robert Pen, Vice Provincial, was also present, offering words of encouragement and blessings. The youth expressed heartfelt gratitude for the warm welcome and guidance they received.
In the evening, the group visited the crypt, where they were deeply moved by the presence of relics of numerous saints. Fr Ashwin Macwan inspired the youth by reminding them of Don Bosco’s vision — that every young person is called to holiness — encouraging them to take up the challenge of becoming saints in their own lives.
The pilgrimage also included a visit to Don Bosco Youth Services (DBYS), where Fr Leon Cruz, Youth Delegate of the Mumbai Province, interacted with the group and shared insights about various youth activities, motivating them to be active in their faith journey.
The day concluded with a fellowship dinner arranged by Fr George Miranda, Administrator of the Provincial House, which was appreciated by all. The group then proceeded to Dadar railway station and returned home, carrying with them profound spiritual experiences and renewed faith.
Fr Ashwin Macwan expressed sincere gratitude to Mr Shailesh Christi, a well-wisher and supporter of Amrutdhara, for his constant support and accompaniment throughout the pilgrimage.
This Lenten pilgrimage truly became a journey of grace, strengthening the faith, unity, and commitment of the SYM youth, inspiring them to grow closer to God during this sacred season of Lent.
