In an effort to strengthen educators' understanding of student behaviour and promote effective classroom practices, the Management of Don Bosco High School & Junior College, Naigaon, organized an insightful seminar for its teaching staff on June 10, 2026. The seminar, titled “Beyond Discipline – Emotional Well-being and Classroom Management in Large Classrooms,” was conducted by Ms Ratandeep, an experienced psychologist and counsellor from Prafulta Counseling Services.
The programme was designed to equip teachers with practical strategies to address discipline-related challenges while fostering emotionally supportive and inclusive learning environments. Attended by approximately 50 teachers, the seminar provided participants with a valuable psychotherapeutic perspective on classroom dynamics and student behaviour.
Through a series of engaging presentations, reflective exercises, group discussions, and interactive games, Ms Ratandeep encouraged educators to look beyond traditional disciplinary approaches and explore the emotional factors that often influence student conduct. She emphasized that effective classroom management begins with understanding the emotional needs of learners and responding to them with empathy, patience, and awareness.
One of the key highlights of the session was the focus on emotional well-being and emotional regulation. Ms Ratandeep explained how students often express their struggles through behaviour and stressed the importance of identifying the underlying emotions behind disciplinary issues. She encouraged teachers to develop a deeper understanding of students’ experiences and to create spaces where learners feel safe, respected, and supported.
The seminar also provided teachers with an opportunity to reflect on their own roles in shaping classroom culture. Through meaningful discussions and shared experiences, participants explored how their daily interactions with students can significantly impact learning outcomes and emotional development. Teachers were reminded that qualities such as attentive listening, compassion, consistency, and understanding can help build trust and strengthen teacher-student relationships.
The interactive nature of the programme kept participants actively engaged throughout the day. Collaborative activities encouraged teachers to exchange ideas, discuss real-life classroom situations, and explore practical solutions to common challenges faced in large classrooms. These activities not only enhanced professional learning but also fostered a spirit of collaboration among staff members.
Participants appreciated the relevance and practicality of the session, finding it both enlightening and inspiring. The seminar reinforced the belief that education extends beyond academics and that emotional well-being plays a crucial role in a student’s overall growth and success.
As the programme concluded, teachers left with renewed confidence and a deeper understanding of how emotional awareness can positively influence classroom management. The seminar served as a timely reminder that when educators approach students with empathy and understanding, they help create learning environments where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
The initiative reflects Don Bosco Naigaon’s continued commitment to holistic education and professional development, ensuring that its educators are well-equipped to meet the evolving needs of students in today's dynamic educational landscape.
