The Sunday School Catechists' Commissioning Ceremony was held on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. during the Eucharistic Celebration at Sacred Heart Parish, Yerwada. The Holy Eucharist was solemnly celebrated by Fr Michael Fernandes, the Parish Priest, in the presence of parishioners, catechists and children,
In his inspiring homily, Fr Fernandes reflected on the words of Jesus: "Come to me, all you who labour and are burdened, and I will give you rest." He reminded the faithful that true peace and strength are found only in Christ. He encouraged everyone to surrender their worries, fears and struggles to Jesus with complete trust and confidence.
To illustrate the power of unwavering faith, Fr Fernandes shared two meaningful examples. The first was about a man trapped in the habit of alcoholism who experienced a remarkable transformation after placing his trust in Jesus and seeking His guidance. The second example highlighted a widow whose deep faith enabled her to overcome life's challenges with courage and hope. Through these examples, Fr Fernandes emphasised that faith in Jesus has the power to transform lives, heal brokenness and give strength to overcome every difficulty. He urged the faithful to remain steadfast in their faith, assuring them that God never abandons those who place their trust in Him.
A significant moment of the celebration was the Commissioning of the Sunday School Catechists for the new catechetical year. During this solemn rite, the catechists renewed their commitment to serve as dedicated teachers and faithful witnesses of Christ. The commissioning served as a reminder of their sacred responsibility to nurture children in the Catholic faith, guide them in their spiritual journey, and inspire them through their words and example.
Fr Michael Fernandes invoked God's special blessings upon all the catechists, praying that they may be filled with wisdom, patience, love and the guidance of the Holy Spirit as they undertake their mission of faith formation. The ceremony concluded on a prayerful and joyful note, with the newly commissioned catechists encouraged to carry out their ministry with renewed enthusiasm, dedication, and a spirit of humble service. The celebration marked the beginning of another year of nurturing young hearts to grow in faith, love, and discipleship under the guidance of Christ.
