"Your life today is the sum of the choices you make." This powerful message resonated throughout the Annual Retreat conducted for the students of STDs IX and X at St. Dominic Savio High School, Andheri on August 4 and 5, 2026, inviting them to pause, reflect and rediscover what truly matters in life.
Keeping in mind the diverse faith backgrounds of the students, the school organised two enriching retreat experiences. The Catholic students participated in the retreat "Growing in Love with the Bible," preached by Fr Bosco Carvalho, SDB, while the students of other faiths attended "Discovering What Truly Matters," conducted by Fr Agnel Dias, SDB.
Through engaging sessions, interactive games, videos, personal reflection and meaningful discussions, Fr Carvalho guided the Catholic students on a journey of discovering the richness of Scripture. Built around the themes Faith is Fun, Faith is Friendship with Jesus and Faith is Fellowship, the retreat encouraged the boys to deepen their relationship with Christ through God's Word. Scripture reflections, scenes from The Chosen, quizzes and personal resolutions and the Eucharistic celebration helped them appreciate that the Bible is not merely a book to read but a guide for everyday living.
For the students of other faiths, Fr Dias centred his retreat on God, Life and Purpose, encouraging them to reflect on the choices that shape their future. Inspiring videos, interactive discussions and the screening of The Ultimate Gift highlighted the importance of friendship, kindness, perseverance and living a life rooted in values rather than material success. Students were reminded that true fulfilment comes from living with integrity, compassion and a clear sense of purpose.
The retreat left a lasting impact on the students. Reflecting on the experience, Mast. Atharva Swargiya, a STD X student shared, "I realised that life is defined by the choices we make and the company we keep." Mast. Avner Fernandes said that the retreat helped him understand that faith is about friendship, fellowship and living God's Word, while Mast. Aaradhya Sawant of STD IX described the session as "fun, inspiring and interactive," adding that they encouraged him to become a better person and live with purpose.
The retreat concluded with renewed hearts and minds, inspiring every student to grow in faith, strengthen their values and live with greater purpose. It was a truly enriching Salesian experience, reflecting Don Bosco's vision of forming good Christians and upright citizens.
