On June 28, 2026, the St John Bosco Borivli Youth Movement, under the guidance of Fr Vishal Lopes, Youth Director, successfully organized its first-ever San Joao Interzonal Competition, bringing together the parish community for an unforgettable celebration of faith, fellowship, tradition, and joyful community spirit. The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with 10 parish zones, comprising nearly 120 participants, taking part in the competitions, while over 200 parishioners gathered to cheer them on and be part of the festivities.
The celebration began with an opening prayer led by Fr Vishal Lopes, invoking God's blessings on the event. This was followed by a meaningful and beautifully presented depiction of the Baptism of Jesus, reminding everyone of the spiritual significance of the feast of San Joao and setting the tone for the day's celebrations.
Following the depiction, all ten zones participated in a vibrant grand parade, proudly marching in with great enthusiasm and creativity. Participants were dressed in colourful traditional San Joao attire, wearing beautifully decorated kopels, floral garlands, and vibrant accessories that truly reflected the festive spirit of the occasion. Their energy and excitement created a lively atmosphere and added colour to the celebration.
Before the competitions began, participants came together for an energetic Zumba session that got everyone moving and filled the grounds with enthusiasm. The much-awaited interzonal competitions then commenced, featuring an exciting mix of telegames, wet games, dry games, relay races, and other specially curated team challenges. Every game encouraged teamwork, communication, healthy competition, and sportsmanship, with each zone giving its very best while cheering one another throughout the event.
To make the celebration even more memorable, spot prizes were distributed during the games, while special awards were presented for the Best Dressed Participants, recognizing the creativity and effort put into celebrating the San Joao tradition. A dedicated photo booth provided participants and families with the opportunity to capture memorable moments, while an open canteen served refreshments and snacks, ensuring everyone remained energized throughout the day.
The evening concluded with the felicitation of the winning teams, acknowledging their outstanding performances and team spirit. Fr Manuel, Rector and Parish Priest, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing his appreciation to the organizers, volunteers, participants, and parishioners whose wholehearted support contributed to the success of the event.
The celebrations continued long after the competitions ended with lively music, an energetic DJ session, rain dance, and pool fun, allowing everyone to celebrate together in true San Joao spirit. Laughter, friendship, and joy filled the atmosphere as parishioners of all ages came together as one community.
The first-ever San Joao Interzonal Competition 2026 proved to be a resounding success. More than just a competition, it was a celebration of faith, unity, culture, and community. Through shared traditions, teamwork, and fellowship, the event strengthened bonds among the youth and parishioners, creating cherished memories and setting a wonderful foundation for what promises to become a much-loved annual parish tradition.
