The Don Bosco Animating Team, comprising Fr George D’abreo, Fr Ajay, FMA Sisters Nilima and Anita, along with Ms Ankita, recently carried out a vibrant and meaningful outreach across the districts of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur, engaging over 200 young people through a series of animation programs rooted in faith, connection, and personal growth.
The highlight of this initiative was a three-day Youth Convention held at Etapalli in Gadchiroli. Centred on the theme “JOY – Connecting with Jesus, Others, and Yourself,” the convention created a space where young people could explore their faith in a way that felt both relevant and engaging. The days were thoughtfully structured to balance reflection and energy—combining input sessions with interactive activities, group discussions, games, action songs, and creative enactments. Each element of the program was designed to help participants not only understand the idea of joy in a spiritual sense but also experience it in community. The atmosphere was lively, participative, and deeply rooted in the Salesian spirit of accompaniment.
Beyond Etapalli, the team also conducted an animation program for catechism children at the Bishop’s House in the Chanda Diocese. This gathering focused on making faith formation enjoyable and accessible for younger participants. Through quizzes, fun-based learning activities, and simple yet meaningful inputs, the children were encouraged to actively engage with their faith. The response was enthusiastic, with the children participating wholeheartedly and expressing their joy through their energy and openness.
The outreach concluded with a youth gathering in the Jiwati region of Chandrapur, where young people from various parishes came together under the same theme of JOY. Despite the geographical challenges of the region, the participation was strong, reflecting the desire among youth for spaces where they can connect, share, and grow. The sessions here continued to emphasise self-awareness, relationships, and a deeper connection with Jesus, creating an enriching experience for those present.
Across all these programs, what stood out was the consistent effort to create environments that were inclusive, interactive, and meaningful. The blending of faith and fun ensured that participants remained engaged while also taking away something valuable for their personal and spiritual lives.
This animation initiative reflects the ongoing commitment of the Salesian mission to walk with young people, especially in regions that are often underserved, offering them not just programs, but experiences of belonging, joy, and hope.
