The Don Bosco Oratory Summer Camp began with a short inauguration program on April 25, 2026. It was a joyful and encouraging start for all the children participating in the camp. The program began with a prayer service, followed by the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Fr Vinod Mascarenhas, the Rector of Don Bosco Provincial House, along with the four captains.
Fr Mascarenhas addressed the students and reminded them that the summer camp is not only a place for fun and enjoyment, but also a place for learning, which is very important in life. He also explained the four pillars of the Oratory: a Home that welcomes, a School that prepares for life, a House of Prayer, and a Playground where friends can meet and grow together.
There was a beautiful prayer dance performed by the Oratory girls, which made the moment even more special. Around 60 students were present for the event. After the inauguration, the children enjoyed fun-filled animated games that brought smiles and laughter to everyone.
Most of the children who attend the summer camp come from nearby slum areas and often from difficult backgrounds. But in the Oratory, they find a place where they feel at home, where they are loved, cared for, and accepted just as they are. As Don Bosco said, “It is not enough to love the young; they must feel that they are loved.” This spirit is clearly seen in our Oratory.
To help the children grow, the camp is divided into three hours each day.
The first hour is for Spoken English classes for students from 5th to 11th standard. They are divided into different classrooms based on their level.
The second hour is for skill training. Children learn music, including theory, guitar, and keyboard. They also take part in art activities like sketching, painting, and quilling. Computer classes are provided to help them learn basic computer skills. Dance classes are also conducted for those who are interested.
The third hour is for sports coaching such as Football, Basketball and Cricket, where children learn to play the game well, teamwork and discipline.
Special attention is given to the 10th standard students, who are provided with two hours of focused and intensive classes to help them prepare for their studies.
Everything in the camp is carried out with great zeal and enthusiasm. The Oratory truly becomes a place of hope for these children. As Don Bosco said, “Do you want to do something good? Educate the young.” Through this camp, we try to shape not only their minds, but also their hearts.
This summer camp is made possible through the efforts of Salesians, along with the hardworking teachers and dedicated volunteers who give their time and love for the children.
