To strengthen the partnership between home and school in a child’s learning journey, the Pre-Primary section, in collaboration with the school counsellors, conducted an engaging workshop on “Developing Numeracy Skills” and “Early Intervention in Numeracy in Daily Life” for the Jr. KG parents on Saturday, August 22, 2026. The session focused on helping parents understand how foundational mathematical concepts can be introduced through meaningful, enjoyable, and everyday experiences.

The workshop commenced with an informative session led by the school counsellors, who highlighted the importance of talking positively about Mathematics with young children. They encouraged parents to become active role models, demonstrating how mathematical thinking naturally forms a part of daily life. Parents were introduced to the concept of foundational numeracy, which involves reasoning, problem-solving, and the practical application of simple mathematical concepts. Through relatable examples such as cooking, sports, shopping, measuring distances, and navigation, parents learned how everyday situations can become valuable opportunities for mathematical learning.

The numeracy workshop then began on an enthusiastic note with a lively ice-breaker activity. Accompanied by cheerful music, parents formed groups and participated in interactive tasks that fostered collaboration, communication, and enjoyment. The atmosphere was vibrant, creating the perfect setting for meaningful learning and exchange of ideas.

A series of hands-on activities followed, demonstrating creative and practical ways of introducing mathematical concepts to young learners. Parents explored mini-lessons on number recognition, number values, directions, tens and units, and place value concepts. They actively participated in games that reinforced addition, subtraction, ascending and descending order, before-and-after concepts, forward and backward counting, and spatial awareness. These engaging activities highlighted how learning Mathematics can be both effective and enjoyable when presented through play and exploration.

One of the most appreciated segments of the workshop was a story-based sequencing and role-play activity, which encouraged active participation and showcased the connection between language, imagination, and numeracy. Parents also gained valuable insights into teaching double-digit numbers and understanding place values through simple, child-friendly strategies that can be incorporated into everyday routines. An exciting game involving shapes and directions added to the enthusiasm, while a lively round of Number Bingo at the end kept everyone alert and eager to participate.

The workshop concluded with a colourful video presentation demonstrating innovative ways in which children can explore mathematical concepts through interactive activities at home. Together, the sessions provided parents with practical tools, fresh perspectives, and greater confidence in supporting their children’s learning. The programme reflected the school’s commitment to making Mathematics meaningful, engaging, and accessible, while nurturing curiosity, confidence, and a lifelong love for learning in every child.
