A heartfelt farewell Mass and reception for Fr Royal D’Abreo SDB took place on May 17, 2026 at Dominic Savio Parish, Satpur and at Don Bosco Church, Nashik, drawing priests, religious, parishioners, and well-wishers from both communities. The day was marked by emotional goodbyes, fond memories, and abundant gratitude for his years of pastoral service.
Fr D’Abreo, who will take up the responsibility of leading the Don Bosco Naigaon Community in the Diocese of Vasai, spoke candidly and warmly to the congregation. He thanked parishioners for their steadfast support and said he would deeply miss the “warmth and love” he received in Nashik. His remarks, delivered from the heart, moved many to tears and were followed by applause and embraces from parishioners who lined up to offer personal farewells.
Parishioners recalled Fr D’Abreo’s pivotal role during the COVID-19 pandemic, notably his instrumental leadership in building the Don Bosco Church—a project that became a symbol of hope and resilience for the community. Under his pastoral care, both Dominic Savio Parish and Don Bosco Church experienced spiritual renewal and strengthened community outreach. Several speakers highlighted his pastoral zeal, his commitment to sacramental life, and his insistence that the faithful remain rooted in Christ, the “primary Shepherd.”
The liturgy blended solemn prayer with joyful thanksgiving. Concelebrating priests as well as many lay leaders praised Fr D’Abreo’s dedication to youth ministry, catechesis, and social initiatives, while presenting him tokens of appreciation and shared anecdotes reflecting his tireless work ethic.
On May 31, 2026, both parishes welcomed their new Rector and Parish Priest, Fr Wyman Gonsalves SDB. Fr Gonsalves, who has served for many years within the Nashik formation setup, asked parishioners for their love, support, and patience as he takes on his first appointment as parish priest. The assembled faithful responded with a thunderous applause, signalling confidence and hope for continued pastoral care.
We live in continued hope that the legacy of faith, service, and community-building will endure in Nashik as the leadership changes guard towards a brighter future.
