Don Bosco Social Development Services, Nerul, celebrated International Yoga Day on June 24, 2026 with the objective of promoting physical fitness, mental well-being, and holistic health among the community. The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of approximately 80 participants, including women, youth, children, and staff members.
The yoga session was conducted by Fr Allywn Misquitta, who emphasized the significance of maintaining a healthy body and mind through regular yoga practice. He explained that physical wellness contributes to mental alertness and spiritual growth, enabling individuals to lead balanced and disciplined lives.
Participants were guided through more than 15 yoga postures and breathing exercises, covering movements from head to toe. Special emphasis was placed on Surya Namaskar and Shirshasana, which demonstrated the importance of flexibility, balance, concentration, and overall physical fitness.
The resource person also explained the functioning of the human body through the processes of respiration, digestion, perspiration, urination, and purification, relating them to the traditional Indian concept of the Panch Mahabhoot—Earth, Water, Fire, Air, and Space. The session encouraged participants to understand the connection between yoga, healthy living, and environmental harmony.
The celebration created greater awareness about the importance of adopting yoga as a part of daily life for maintaining physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Participants actively engaged in all the activities and appreciated the practical demonstrations and guidance provided during the session. The programme successfully promoted healthy lifestyle practices, self-discipline, stress management, and community well-being.
Don Bosco Social Development Services expresses its sincere gratitude to the Management, Fr Barnabe D'Souza, Fr Allywn Misquitta, and all the staff members whose support and coordination contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
