Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), Kedgaon, has commenced its Residential Spoken English Camp on April 9, 2026, welcoming 75 students from rural and tribal communities across different districts of Maharashtra and nearby regions. The participants have come from places such as Nandurbar, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Talasari, Ahilyanagar, Karjat, and surrounding rural areas. Many of these students belong to villages where opportunities to practice spoken English are limited, making this camp a valuable platform for learning and growth.
The 30-day residential camp aims to help young people develop their spoken English skills while also building confidence, communication abilities, and leadership qualities. By bringing together students from diverse backgrounds and regions, the camp creates an environment where learning happens not only in the classroom but also through interaction, teamwork, and shared experiences.
The camp began with the arrival and registration of students, who were warmly welcomed by the organisers and animators. After settling in, the participants were introduced to the campus and given a house tour, helping them become familiar with their new surroundings for the coming month. Orientation sessions and instructions were also conducted to guide the students through the schedule, expectations, and opportunities that lie ahead.
The initiative is being carried out under the leadership of Fr George D’Abreo, Director of BGVK, with the support of Fr Clarence, Administrator, and Br Ambrose, the Camp Coordinator. They are joined by a dedicated team of Sisters, volunteers, and animators who will accompany the students throughout the program, guiding and encouraging them in their learning journey.
From the very first day, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and curiosity. Students who had never met before quickly began forming connections through icebreakers, group activities, and games designed to help them feel comfortable and confident. These activities not only helped them overcome their initial hesitation but also encouraged them to communicate with one another in English.
Throughout the next 30 days, the camp will offer a wide range of engaging and interactive learning experiences. The daily schedule includes spoken English classes, conversation practice, group discussions, vocabulary activities, and creative exercises that encourage students to use English in practical situations. Learning is designed to be enjoyable and participatory so that students gradually gain confidence in expressing themselves.
Beyond the classroom, the camp will also feature fun and enriching activities such as team games, cultural programs, leadership sessions, and personality development exercises. These activities are meant to strengthen teamwork, creativity, and self-belief among the participants. By combining language learning with experiential activities, the camp seeks to create a holistic environment where students can grow academically and personally.
For many of these rural and tribal students, this residential program is their first opportunity to step away from their villages and experience a learning environment that encourages them to speak, participate, and explore their potential. Over the coming weeks, they will not only improve their spoken English but also build friendships and memories that will remain with them long after the camp concludes.
The commencement of this Residential Spoken English Camp marks an important step in BGVK’s continued efforts to empower rural youth through education and skill development. With enthusiasm, dedication, and the support of the Salesian team, Sisters, and volunteers, the students have begun a journey that promises to strengthen their confidence and open new doors for their future.
