Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul, organized a comprehensive series of educational events in April 2026, designed to promote practical life skills, creativity, and a deep-seated love for literature. Held in the Multi-Purpose Hall and the 4th Floor Assembly Hall, these activities highlighted the school’s unwavering commitment to the holistic development of students across different age groups.
Practical Safety and Artistic Expression
The program commenced on April 21 with two specialized sessions for younger students. From 8:30 to 9:15 a.m., Mrs Sandhya Pillai, a paediatric nurse, conducted an interactive First Aid workshop for the Preparatory Stage. She demonstrated essential techniques to handle common school-related injuries, including cuts, burns, nosebleeds, and sprains. By emphasizing quick response times and the necessity of a well-stocked first aid kit, the workshop allowed students to actively practice these skills, gaining the confidence to apply them in real-life situations.
Following this, from 9:15 to 10 a.m., Mrs Margaret Faustina and Mrs Sneha Patil led a Do-It-Yourself origami workshop for Foundational Stage II students. Centered on a Mother’s Day theme, the children crafted heart-shaped bouquets using simple paper-folding techniques. This hands-on activity encouraged artistic creativity, improved concentration, and enhanced fine motor skills, allowing students to take home personalized creations that beautifully complemented the school's core curriculum.
World Book Day Celebrations
On April 22, the school celebrated World Book Day with a literary event aimed at inspiring imagination and nurturing consistent reading habits. Guest speaker Ms Jyotsna Singh, a Reading Strategist and Emotional Intelligence Specialist, was warmly welcomed and felicitated by the school Supervisor. Ms Singh shared valuable insights on building a strong reading culture and introduced the "5 E’s" concept to guide students toward becoming thoughtful, active readers. She explained how reading contributes significantly to personal growth and emotional intelligence. An interactive Q&A session followed, where Ms Singh motivated avid readers to explore books beyond their academics and believe in the power of their own ideas.
Connecting with Literature: "Meet the Author"
The series culminated on April 23 with a "Meet the Author" event for students of Classes IX to
XII. Guest of Honour Ms Lavanya Karthik, a renowned children’s author and illustrator, shared her inspirations and explained how everyday experiences can be transformed into compelling stories. Students explored storytelling and illustration techniques during a lively discussion. Notably, Ms Karthik provided personalized feedback on contributions to the school magazine,
Bosco Abha, while a bookstall offered her titles at discounted rates. These events together demonstrated Don Bosco’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded students by blending life skills, creative expression, and literary engagement in meaningful ways.
