On July 25, 2026, Don Bosco School CBSE, Borivli, Savio Kindergarten organised an engaging and informative Phonics Workshop for the parents of Nursery and Jr. KG students. The workshop was conducted by the renowned phonics trainer, Ms Salome D’Souza, who shared practical techniques and valuable insights to help parents support their children’s early literacy journey at home.
The session began with a warm welcome, followed by an introduction to the importance of phonics in developing strong reading, writing, and pronunciation skills. Ms Salome explained how children learn to recognise letter sounds before blending them into words, making reading a fun and meaningful experience. Parents gained a deeper understanding of the role they play in reinforcing these skills through regular practice and encouragement.
One of the highlights of the workshop was the interactive learning activities conducted with the parents. Ms Salome encouraged everyone to participate by identifying individual letter sounds and pronouncing words phonetically. Parents enthusiastically responded to the activities, confidently attempting different sounds and learning the correct methods of blending letters into words. The practical demonstrations helped them understand how phonics is taught in the classroom and how they can continue the same learning process at home.
The workshop also featured lively Jolly Phonics videos with actions that brought excitement and energy into the session. Parents actively joined in performing the actions associated with each sound, making the learning experience enjoyable and memorable. The combination of music, movement, and sound created a positive atmosphere where everyone felt comfortable participating. The activities demonstrated that learning phonics can be engaging, interactive, and enjoyable for both children and adults.
Throughout the workshop, Ms Salome patiently addressed the parents’ questions and provided useful tips for practising phonics regularly at home. She emphasised the importance of consistency, positive reinforcement, and making learning enjoyable through games, stories, songs, and daily conversations. Her guidance inspired parents to become confident partners in their child’s literacy development.
The workshop concluded with an enthusiastic response from all the parents, who expressed their appreciation for the informative and well-organised session. They shared that the practical activities, Jolly Phonics actions, and valuable explanations gave them greater confidence in helping their children learn effectively. The session strengthened the partnership between home and school, ensuring that children receive consistent support in their phonics learning journey.
