From June 10 to 12, Don Bosco School and Junior College, Nashik, organized a vital three-day teacher orientation program under the leadership of the Principal, Fr Rixson. Designed to address evolving student realities, child psychology, legal safety, and interpersonal development, the seminar featured expert speakers: Fr George, Fr Ajay, and his team.
The sessions deconstructed contemporary student stressors, highlighting that academic pressure begins earlier and lasts longer than ever before. Amidst the rising tension between schools and external coaching classes, the seminar reinforced that a school’s definitive edge lies in its structural capacity for holistic growth. Today's youth navigate demanding daily schedules while weighed down by heavy personal baggage, including an intense fear of failure, peer comparison, social media isolation, and deep-seated identity struggles.
Consequently, the core training emphasized that the educator's role must shift from yesterday’s rigid "information giver" to a learning facilitator, mentor, and emotional support provider. This shift is deeply anchored in Don Bosco’s pedagogy, which views education fundamentally as a "matter of the heart." Teachers were also urged to manage their own emotional well-being to remain grounded role models. Fr Ajay explained that student behaviour is an active form of communication; classroom disruption, aggression, or non-participation often stems from underlying anxieties, feelings of being ignored, or family difficulties. Using Erik Erikson’s developmental stages, teachers mapped behavioural needs across primary, middle school, and adolescent brackets to bridge the modern paradox of children being digitally connected yet emotionally disconnected.
To ensure student safety, the orientation featured an essential session on the POCSO Act alongside a digital landscape workshop. The seminar stressed absolute compliance with the Personal Data Protection Act (PDP Act) by securing explicit consent before uploading any student data or imagery.
The orientation concluded with practical life pillars facilitated by Fr George, who introduced basic financial literacy—teaching individuals to prioritize survival needs over material wants. To navigate the school's relational web, the facilitators introduced the ABCDE framework (Active listening, Build trust, Clear communication, Demonstrate empathy, Encourage others) to dismantle communication barriers.
The three-day program officially concluded with a collaborative staff meeting to align the faculty for the upcoming academic year. During the meeting, Fr Wyman, the new Rector, was warmly introduced and welcomed by the staff members. In his address, he appreciated the progress made by the school and explained the theme for the academic year: “You are not alone.”
