Students of Don Bosco Senior Secondary School, Nerul were offered a unique and enriching opportunity to explore the world of aviation during an educational visit to the Navi Mumbai International Airport on 17th April 2026.
A selected group of students from Grades IX and XI (Humanities and Commerce), accompanied by faculty members and our Vice Principal Fr. Shekar Mariadas, participated in the visit. Upon arrival, students completed the necessary security procedures before proceeding to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility—the nerve centre of airport operations.
Following a brief orientation by airport officials, students were divided into smaller groups for a guided tour. From a viewing gallery, they observed the runway, taxiways, and communication systems, witnessing aircraft movements up close. At the control room, they gained insight into the critical role of air traffic controllers, who ensure safe and efficient coordination of flights through constant communication and precise decision-making.
The visit also included an interactive introduction to the airport’s fire and safety services. Students explored fire trucks, learned about emergency response systems, and witnessed a live demonstration of high-powered firefighting equipment. This hands-on experience highlighted the importance of preparedness and quick response in ensuring passenger safety.
During lunch, a guest speaker engaged the students with insights into career opportunities in the aviation sector, offering guidance and inspiration for future aspirations.
Students also had the opportunity to witness aircraft take offs and landings—an exciting experience that brought their learning to life. At the conclusion of the visit, tokens of appreciation were distributed to all participants.
The visit proved to be both educational and inspiring, providing students with practical exposure, broadening their understanding of aviation operations, and encouraging them to explore diverse career pathways in this dynamic field.
