Vasad, Gujarat, June 28, 2026: Don Bosco Kawant, in collaboration with the Guardian Angel Foundation, participated in the Olive Tree Plantation Initiative held at the Methodist Bible Seminary, Vasad, reaffirming its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
The Olive Tree Project, launched in 2024 by the Guardian Angel Foundation, is a five-year initiative aimed at promoting ecological awareness and encouraging institutions to actively contribute to a greener future. Don Bosco Kawant joined this project in 2026, strengthening its outreach and impact.
Prior to this programme, 145 olive saplings had already been distributed and planted under the project. During the current event held on June 28, an additional 90 olive saplings were distributed to 26 organisations, including churches, schools, parishes, and social institutions. Out of the earlier plantations, 110 plants are growing well and healthy, indicating the effectiveness and sustainability of the initiative.
The programme began with a warm welcome to all participants, followed by a prayer service led by Mr Sajan James, creating a reflective and prayerful atmosphere. Representatives from various institutions, educators, clergy members, and youth leaders were present, showing enthusiastic participation.
An important session was conducted by Dr Sunilbhai Macwan, Professor at Anklav University, who explained the characteristics and importance of the olive tree. He highlighted its ecological, medicinal, and economic benefits, encouraging participants to take responsibility for nurturing the saplings with care and dedication.
Addressing the gathering, Fr Mayank Parmar, SDB, Director of Don Bosco Kawant, emphasised that care for the environment must be an integral part of community life. He noted that such initiatives go beyond plantation drives and serve as movements that instil values of responsibility, sustainability, and respect for creation, especially among the youth. Further enriching the programme, Fr Parmar spoke about the cultural and spiritual importance of trees, stressing their role in maintaining ecological balance and sustaining life. His message encouraged participants to consider tree plantation as both a social responsibility and a moral duty.
The technical session was led by Mrs Foramben, Community Outreach Director of Guardian Angel Foundation, who provided practical guidance on planting and maintaining olive saplings through a detailed presentation. Participants learned about proper plantation techniques, watering methods, and long-term care. The session also included experience-sharing from participants who had previously planted olive trees.
Additionally, Mr Manojbhai Macwan Community Development Society (CDS) shared his practical experience and offered valuable tips on protecting and nurturing the plants effectively.
The olive tree, symbolising peace, blessing, and endurance, holds both ecological and spiritual significance. The organisers emphasised that nurturing these plants is not only an environmental act but also a commitment to building a sustainable and hope-filled future.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge by all participating institutions to care for the saplings and promote environmental awareness in their respective communities.
This collaboration between Don Bosco Kawant and the Guardian Angel Foundation stands as a strong example of how institutions can work together for environmental protection. As these olive trees continue to grow, they will serve as living symbols of unity, responsibility, and a shared commitment to safeguarding our common home.
