The first phase of the Emotional Development and Career Guidance (EDCG) Programme, conducted by Prafulta Centre for Psychological Wellness, was successfully held for students of Grade 5 to 10 between 13th July and 22nd July 2026 at St. Dominic Savio High School, Andheri. The sessions aimed to equip students with practical strategies to understand, express and manage their emotions while promoting healthy habits and emotional well-being.
The programme commenced with interactive sessions centred on ‘Exploring Emotions and Play’ for students of Grades 6 to 9. Through discussions, worksheets, group activities and role-play, students learnt to identify emotions, recognise physical signs associated with feelings and understand that while emotions cannot always be controlled, they can be managed effectively. Activities such as Being a Thought Detective, the Emotion Volcano worksheet and breathing exercises encouraged self-awareness and healthy coping strategies. Students also reflected on the importance of reducing screen time and embracing play as a positive outlet for emotional regulation.
Students of Grade 5 participated in ‘Understanding Emotions and Play,’ where they explored different emotions through stories and situations. They learnt that every emotion is valid and practised simple coping techniques to deal with challenging feelings. The session also highlighted the adverse effects of excessive screen time and reinforced the value of outdoor play.
For students of Grade 10, the focus shifted to ‘Handling the Double E's – Emotions and Exams.’ The facilitators guided students in recognising emotions associated with examinations, identifying stressful situations and adopting healthy habits to manage academic pressure. A key takeaway was the reassuring message that an examination measures performance, not personal worth, helping students develop a healthier perspective towards success and failure.
The sessions were highly interactive and well received. Sharing their reflections, students of Grade 10 said, "The session made us realise that stress is normal and that we can manage it in healthy ways. We also understood that our marks do not define who we are."
The EDCG Programme has set a strong foundation for the year, encouraging students to build emotional resilience, develop healthy coping mechanisms and approach challenges with confidence and self-awareness.
