MUMBAI, July 26, 2026: A total of 847 Garo migrant youth from Meghalaya (Garo Tribe) and Assam, now working and residing in Mumbai, gathered at the Shrine of Don Bosco, Matunga, for their monthly gathering on Sunday, July 26. The programme organized by Suraksha Migrant Desk, Matunga, C/o Don Bosco Balprafulta, offered the young people an opportunity for prayer, fellowship and recreation amid the demands of city life and work.

The gathering began with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, followed by the celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Fr Cherak Sangma, SDB, presently serving at Don Bosco Technical & Agricultural School, Assam, presided over the Mass.

In his homily, Fr Sangma reminded the congregation that God continually loves His people and walks with them through every circumstance of life. He encouraged the youth to recognise the Eucharist as the way that leads believers to Christ, their greatest treasure. Referring to the challenges that young migrants often encounter, he invited them to trust in God’s wisdom, remain faithful in times of trial, and keep God’s Kingdom as the ultimate goal of their lives.

Following the Eucharist, the youth moved to the Don Bosco Matunga turf for a football tournament. Seven teams took part, including four boys’ teams and three girls’ teams.

Sports has long remained an integral part of Don Bosco’s educational tradition creating space for healthy competition, teamwork, discipline and shared enjoyment. For many of the young migrants, the tournament also provided a welcome pause after a demanding week of work and strengthening bonds of friendship.

The monthly gathering once again brought faith, fellowship and community together for the Garo migrant youth in Mumbai.
