A two-day Orientation Programme for all educators of the Don Bosco Edu Complex, Yerwada, was conducted at the Don Bosco Edu Complex. The programme aimed at enriching the teaching-learning process and equipping educators with essential skills for effective classroom management and child protection.
The first day began with a warm welcome by Ms. Manjusha, who introduced the resource person, Fr Bosco Carvalho, SDB. Fr Glen felicitated him with a welcome card. The theme of the day was “Teaching with the Heart.” Fr Carvalho commenced the session with an energizing activity titled “Fire on the Mountain,” which helped teachers interact and work collaboratively in groups.
Through group discussions and presentations, participants reflected on the challenges students face during group work and explored whether technology could replace teachers. Fr Carvalho highlighted that while technology and Artificial Intelligence are valuable tools, they cannot create memories, nurture social skills, or respond to the individual emotional needs of students. He emphasized that technology in the hands of a great teacher can be transformational, but the human heart of a teacher remains irreplaceable.
The session included several creative and thought-provoking activities. In the “Chunari Activity,” participants used a small piece of cloth to create different objects, promoting creativity and innovative thinking. Discussions focused on student-centered learning, real-world problem-solving, critical thinking, classroom management, creating happy classrooms, setting clear expectations, positive reinforcement and increasing student involvement. Teachers also explored strategies for handling difficult students and strengthening collaboration with parents through regular communication, documentation and early identification of concerns.
The key takeaway from the day was that while technology is an important educational tool, effective teaching requires empathy, creativity and a caring heart. The session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Varsha.
The second day was conducted by Fr Sunil Pinto. Ms Manjusha introduced the speaker, and Fr Glen welcomed him with a welcome card. Fr Pinto began with an engaging energizer and conducted an informative session on Child Protection and Child Safeguarding. He explained the provisions of the POCSO Act, 2012, reporting procedures, and the responsibilities of educators in ensuring a safe environment for children. Interactive activities and discussions enhanced participants’ understanding of these important topics. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms Reena.
The orientation programme proved to be highly informative, interactive, and enriching, inspiring educators to teach with compassion, responsibility, and renewed commitment towards the holistic development and safety of every child.
