Makarpura, Baroda – The Don Bosco Parish community gathered in a spirit of deep faith and celebration on May 10, 2026, to witness 18 young candidates receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. The liturgical event, held during the grace-filled Easter season, marked a significant milestone for the youth as they were sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
The solemn High Mass was presided over by His Lordship Bishop Sebastião Mascarenhas S.F.X., who administered the sacrament. Accompanied by Parish Priest Fr Brian, Animator Fr Chris and the other Salesian Priests, the Bishop led a multilingual service that reflected the diverse cultural fabric of the Vadodara congregation, featuring hymns and prayers in English, Hindi, and Gujarati.
The ceremony commenced with a vibrant entrance procession, followed by the Liturgy of the Word. In his thought-provoking homily, Bishop Mascarenhas encouraged the Candidates receiving Confirmation to use their God-given talents and the newly received spiritual gifts to be witnesses of Christ in their homes, colleges, and workplaces.
The rite itself was a moving experience for those in attendance. Following the renewal of baptismal promises, the Bishop performed the laying on of hands and the anointing with Holy Chrism. Sponsors Ajay and Shefali D’Souza stood in support of the candidates as they made their personal commitment to serve the Church and the wider community.
The celebration concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from the newly confirmed, expressing gratitude to their parents, catechists, and the parish team for their spiritual guidance. As the eucharist ended, the candidates received their certificates, ready to embark on their journey as fully initiated and active members of the Catholic Church. Following the Eucharist, there was a cake-cutting and felicitation programme for the candidates. The Bishop has a commendable practice of meeting each candidate, and asking how they intend to become active members in the church; thereafter the meeting with the Bishop, the candidates went home.
