The INB Province witnessed a deeply meaningful and grace filled moment with the release of Cherished Memories, a publication that goes far beyond a conventional book launch. It was an occasion marked by remembrance, gratitude, and communion, honouring the lives of Salesian confreres who have left an enduring imprint on the Province and its mission.
More than a collection of obituaries, Cherished Memories is a living testimony to the dedication and spirit of the confreres who gave themselves generously to God, to the young, and to the mission inspired by Saint John Bosco. Each narrative reflects not only how they lived, but how they loved, served, sacrificed, and remained steadfast in their vocation.
The book brings to light the essence of a Salesian life, one that is never ordinary, but distinguished by quiet dedication, cheerful service, pastoral charity, and an unwavering trust in God’s providence. Though these confreres are no longer physically present, their spirit continues to inspire and guide the Province.
The release ceremony was presided over by the Provincial, Fr Ashley Miranda, who formally unveiled the book and presented copies to Fr Ivan De Souza, Fr Ian Doulton, and Fr Elson Barretto. The gathering was attended by Rectors and administrators of the INB Province, making it a moment of shared reflection and gratitude.
In his address, Fr Gregory Almeida expressed heartfelt appreciation to all those who contributed to bringing the book to completion. He acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the province secretaries and key collaborators, including Fr Ivan De Souza, Fr Joaquim Fernandes, Fr Savio Silveira, Fr Ashley Miranda, Mr Neil DSouza, and Mr Azeez. Their commitment ensured that the memories and legacy of the confreres were carefully preserved and presented.
Fr Gregory Almeida emphasized that Cherished Memories is not merely a record of the past, but a tribute of gratitude to all who have gone before, whose lives continue to shape and inspire the Salesian mission. He also offered a poignant reminder to the gathering encouraging the community to affirm, appreciate, and support one another in the present, rather than waiting until confreres are no longer among us.
Serving as a bridge between generations, the book enables younger Salesians and lay collaborators to encounter the rich heritage of the Province. It calls them not only to remember but also to imitate, carrying forward the mission with renewed zeal and fidelity.
As the INB Province celebrates this significant publication, Cherished Memories stands as both a memorial and a mission call inviting all to reflect on the legacy received and to respond generously to the call of the present, inspired by the enduring witness of their confreres.
